Managing Nausea With Food
By Cook for Your Life · July 20, 2026

Ginger, cold foods and steady snacking are your first line of defense.
Nausea is one of the most common and most disruptive side effects of treatment. Food can help.
Ginger has the strongest evidence of any food for easing nausea. Try ginger tea, crystallized ginger, or a ginger-heavy congee.
Keep something in your stomach. An empty stomach often makes nausea worse, so nibble dry crackers or toast before getting out of bed.
Choose cold or room-temperature foods. Hot food carries more aroma, and aroma is often the trigger. Cold noodle salads, yogurt, smoothies and sandwiches are all good options.
Sip fluids between meals rather than with them, so your stomach does not feel over-full.
